These are carving blanks cut from  multiple species wood for carving  birds.
They are appropriately sized for “comfort birds”
and similar sized birds
such as seen in the magazines.
Each blank is
about
4 1/4 inches long, 1 3/4 inches high and 1 3/16 inches wide ( plus or minus 1/16th wide).
The packages of 8  comfort birds tend to be the 1 1/8 wide in order to get the weight to less than 16 OZ otherwise it would have to ship more expensive Priority mail
I have created many different lots based on the species of wood .   The Red Cedar, Cherry, Mahogany, Catalpa, Oak and Ash are heaver (and costs more) than the other woods and as I keep  the entire package under the weight limit for USPS 1st class mail, I have to package fewer of these species ( they are also harder to carve with hand tools  so power tools work best except the Red Cedar &Catalpa – that is about like Butternut and easy to do with hand tools).
Your choices are:

The pictures are representative of the blanks you will get but not the actual ones you will receive as I sell them locally as well. The picture shows all Butternut blanks but
you will receive which ever type & Number of blanks you select
– all blanks are the same basic shape and size but each vary somewhat depending on size wood I happen to have.
If you would like a different shape bird (such as Cardinal or Tit Mouse) or  different size (bigger, smaller, wider ) or different  mix of wood species, or different # of blanks,
contact me via eBay messages and wait for a reply before ordering as I will need to cut them and list them. You would want a wider blank if you are doing realistic birds.
If you are thinking of staining the comfort birds a solid color, I particularly recommend the Ash blanks and use Leather dyes to color them.   The colors are bright and the end grain and side grain come out almost the same when built up with light coats.  With many of the penetrating oil wood stains, the end grain is much darker than the side grain.
Ash is a very white wood, with wide, distinct grain patterns that takes stain well.
